Arthritic Foot

Arthritis is a common cause of foot and ankle pain, most often due to Osteoarthritis (OA) or Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative “wear and tear” condition where cartilage covering the ends of bones gradually wears away. In the foot, this can affect joints such as the big toe, midfoot, or ankle, leading to pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system attacks the joints, causing inflammation, pain and swelling. In the feet, it often affects multiple joints on both sides and, if untreated, can sometimes cause deformity.

Getting the right care early can make a big difference in preserving comfort, mobility and overall quality of life. Our podiatrist can diagnose and manage arthritis in the feet with tailored treatments such as custom orthotics, footwear advice, physical therapy, and pain-relief options, including advanced therapies like laser treatment to reduce inflammation and support healing. For more advanced cases, we may recommend imaging, arrange referral to a rheumatology specialist or discuss surgical options where appropriate.
